DEPUTYSHIP APPLICATIONS

If a person has lost mental capacity to deal with their affairs and does not have a valid lasting power of attorney in place, often the only alternative is to apply to the Court of Protection to become a Deputy for that person (known then as the patient). This is a lengthy process where a standard application takes around 6 months to complete. The application is incredibly detailed, and we can help to make this process as straightforward as possible.

Once appointed by the Court, a Deputy can manage the patient’s affairs on their behalf but will remain under the supervision of the Court. It is vital that the Court application requests the correct powers required by the Deputy based on the patient’s circumstances.  We appreciate that these applications are often required at incredibly difficult times and our experience in this area can help to make the application run as smoothly as possible for you.
